Flamenco Music Appreciation – with Amity Skala

Back by popular demand! This 1-session workshop will cover Flamenco terminology, an overview of different Flamenco forms and styles, and tips to identify a piece of Flamenco music.
This workshop is suitable for Beginner and Elementary students or anyone who wants to learn more about Flamenco music. No dancing is required.

Open Level Spanish for Dancers Workshop – with Estelle Kurier

This 1-session workshop will feature a flamenco dance class conducted in Spanish! Common words and terminology in Spanish (parts of the body, instructions, numbers, etc.) will be presented and reviewed while dancing a variety of palos (pieces). You don’t need to already speak Spanish to enjoy this dance class! Minimum 1 year flamenco dance experience. This workshop would be perfect preparation for anyone planning to take dance classes in Spain!

Advanced 12-beat llamada – a skill building workshop with Estelle Kurier (inspired by Flamenco dancer Rafaela Carrasco who will be performing in Victoria in April!)

Estelle Kurier has had the pleasure of studying with Rafaela Carrasco in Spain, and in this workshop Estelle will share a 12-beat llamada (suitable for Alegrías or Soleá por Bulería) choreographed by Rafaela Carrasco, and warm-up based on Rafaela’s distinctive style. This workshop is for Advanced or Intermediate/Advanced dancers who love a challenge!

Celebrate Dance Victoria’s Dance Days with Flamenco Victoria, your local studio dedicated to the art of Spanish dance instruction!
This FREE 45-minute class is open to adult dancers who are new to flamenco dancing and want to sample a class at Flamenco Victoria. No experience needed. Challenge yourself with some fun new moves! Registration required.

Learn some choreography with a bastón (cane)! This 2 part workshop is intended for Advanced dancers or Intermediate level dancers who love a challenge! Dancers must supply their own bastón, a wooden cane works or the wooden end of a broom stick. At the hardware store you can get replacement handles for brooms/mops for less than $10.

Cante (singing) is the heart of flamenco! This open level workshop is for anyone who wants to learn some new lyrics and deepen their flamenco understanding! Cost: $55

Explore contemporary flamenco in a bata de cola! This open level class is for dancers with bata de cola experience and curiosity to try something new!

These workshop are the perfect time to sample a new aspect of flamenco and expand your learning!
- Fandangos Fun – with Amity Skala
Wednesday/Friday 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Suitable for Beginner and Elementary dancers, this workshop will cover the basic structure of the popular Fandangos de Huelva through learning a short choreography and some basic tools for eventually creating your own dance through improvisation.
- Tangos por Fiesta – with Amity Skala
Wednesday/Friday 6:05-7:05 p.m.
Learn to improvise your own Tangos solo! For Intermediate dancers or Elementary level dancers who learn steps quickly, this class will let you explore your creativity in a fun and encouraging learning environment. As well as dancing, you will be coached to develop your accompaniment skills as you support your classmates.
- Castanets & Classical Style – with Amity Skala
Wednesday/Friday 7:15-8:15 p.m.
Perfect the basics of playing the castanets and improve your skill through technique exercises! Emphasis will be placed on arm positions and the elegant posture needed for classical Spanish dancing. If you have always wanted to play the castanets, this is the class for you! Minimum 1 year previous flamenco dance experience required. A few pairs of castanets will be available to use in class for students who do not yet have their own.
- Sevillanas Refresher – with Amity Skala
Tuesday/Thursday 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Designed for dancers who are already familiar with the popular dance Sevillanas, or are ready for a fast-paced learning environment. Each class will focus on one of the four traditional verses. Sevillanas is a staple dance that all flamenco students need to learn! This dance is your ticket to being able to quickly participate in flamenco parties and performances.
- Spanish for Dancers – with Estelle Kurier
Tuesday/Thursday 6:05-7:05 p.m.
This open level dance class will be conducted in Spanish! Common words and terminology in Spanish (parts of the body, instructions, numbers, etc.) will be presented and reviewed while dancing a variety of palos (pieces). - Bulerías Bootcamp* – with Lia Crowe
Tuesday/Thursday 7:15-8:30 p.m.
(Please note the price adjustment for this workshop as each lesson is 1 hour and 15 minutes). For Intermediate and Advanced dancers to build endurance for flamenco’s fastest and liveliest palo. Drill footwork patterns for marcaje, remates, and escobillas in Bulerías as well as learn some new llamadas!

- Monday, July 7 – Compás Exploration (Discover 12-beats) – with Amity Skala
(1 session) 6:05-7:05 p.m.
This open level workshop will cover an overview of some of the most popular 12-beat flamenco forms and compare similarities and differences in structure and accompaniment. Be a compás detective and discover the rich and unique rhythms of flamenco! Suitable for anyone interested in flamenco rhythms and music, this is a sit-down class and no dancing will be required.

- Monday, July 14 – Compás Exploration (Understanding Alegrías) – with Amity Skala
(1 session) 6:05-7:05 p.m.
This open level workshop will cover a breakdown of the structure for an Alegrías dance. Examples will be given to help identify the specific segments of this 12-beat dance. It is recommended to have taken the Compás Exploration workshop on July 7th as a prerequisite for this more in-depth lesson. This is a sit-down class and no dancing will be required.

Have fun learning foundation arm movements and basic footwork techniques! For ages 10-15 this workshop is for those new to flamenco, and dancers who want to review and perfect the basics.

For ages 10-15, this workshop is for dancers who have previous flamenco experience or attended the July 7th Flamenco Basics workshop. Skill building will be the focus of this exciting class!

Summer Flamenco Intensive – August 25-29, 2025 (Monday-Friday immersion course) – with Amity Skala
Get in shape for fall classes with this 1-week flamenco intensive. This is the perfect time to start flamenco or hone your skills to take your dancing to the next level. The week will be a flamenco immersion and tailored to the level and interests of the attending students.
