Flamenco Music Appreciation – with Amity Skala

Back by popular demand! This 1-session workshop will cover Flamenco terminology, an overview of different Flamenco forms and styles, and tips to identify a piece of Flamenco music.
This workshop is suitable for Beginner and Elementary students or anyone who wants to learn more about Flamenco music. No dancing is required.

Open Level Spanish for Dancers Workshop – with Estelle Kurier

This 1-session workshop will feature a flamenco dance class conducted in Spanish! Common words and terminology in Spanish (parts of the body, instructions, numbers, etc.) will be presented and reviewed while dancing a variety of palos (pieces). You don’t need to already speak Spanish to enjoy this dance class! Minimum 1 year flamenco dance experience. This workshop would be perfect preparation for anyone planning to take dance classes in Spain!

Celebrate Dance Victoria’s Dance Days with Flamenco Victoria, your local studio dedicated to the art of Spanish dance instruction!
This FREE 45-minute class is open to adult dancers who are new to flamenco dancing and want to sample a class at Flamenco Victoria. No experience needed. Challenge yourself with some fun new moves! Registration required.

Palmas for Performance – Wednesday, March 25, 2026, 7:00-8:00 p.m. – with Denise Yeo
Location: 1701 Elgin Road
Intermediate and Advanced dancers are invited to increase proficiency as a palmero with this “hands-on” workshop. Denise will share her philosophy on accompaniment and give opportunities for applying different techniques. There are so many accomplished dancers in our community and the decision to include someone in a performance often comes down to their ability to also do palmas. This 1-hour workshop is a chance to build your skills and make sure you are ready the next time you are asked to accompany in class or in a performance. Don’t miss this opportunity!

Respectful Remates – Wednesdays, April 1-22, 2026, 7:00-8:00 p.m. – with Denise Yeo
Location: 1701 Elgin Road
Anyone who has improvised as a flamenco dancer (or would like to), knows the challenge of when to embellish with a remate without disrupting the flow of the music. Denise will guide dancers of all levels (minimum 3-years flamenco experience), with the focus of increasing listening skills and effectively incorporating remates in a variety of situations and palos. Prepare to get closer to the music and level up your understanding of the compás!

Exploring Fandangos – Wednesday, April 29, 2026, 7:00-8:00 p.m. – with Veronica Maguire
Location: 1701 Elgin Road
This workshop is for Intermediate and Advanced dancers who would like to discover more about dancing to a variety of cantes for Fandangos, including remates, llamadas, and understanding the phrasing within the songs. Participants will receive words of songs being sung in the class. Students need to already have a basic understanding of Fandangos to fully enjoy this workshop. Advanced dancers should be prepared to focus on creative and improvisational skills.
Cante students, who already know how to sing some Fandangos, would benefit from this workshop, with opportunities for hearing how to adapt new letras as they are being sung, and a chance to practice singing solo for the dancers.

Mantón Basics – Wednesdays, May 6-27, 2026, 7:00-8:00 p.m. (4 sessions) – with Lia Crowe

Have you always wanted to dance with a Mantón (large shawl)? This is your chance to learn the foundation technique without having to worry about a lot of choreography. This Open Level workshop will go over how to hold and manipulate the shawl with basic dance moves. This is a great place to start if you are curious about dancing with a Mantón. (Students are required to supply their own Mantón. Please contact the studio if you need help finding one to buy or borrow).

This workshop is great for beginner dancers or those new to flamenco. Learn the posture, arm and hand movements, and the basic footwork techniques of this dramatic and passionate art form. A great opportunity to sample flamenco!
